TBILISI, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Fire-extinguishing efforts have been under way in Georgia as 10 forest fires raged throughout the country, local media reported Tuesday.
The active fires broke out due to dry weather and there is no threat of the fire spreading to settled areas, the press service of Georgia's Emergency Management Agency said in a statement.
About 80 firefighters were mobilized overnight to put out the blazes at the Georgian-Armenian border near the village of Organchai, it said.
In Kvemo Kartli, Akhkerpi, Chabano and other neighbouring villages, more fire fighters were dispatched to extinguish localized fires.
All active fires are now under control, said the agency, urging local residents to be vigilant against more possible flames due to dry weather conditions.
