JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Seven Islamic State (IS) militants have been arrested in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar, the military said Tuesday.
"They were arrested following separate military operations in provincial capital Jalalabad city and and nearby districts within the past couple of days," Afghan army's 201 Selab Corps said in a statement.
The arrested militants will be handed over to the related departments for questioning and their identities will be investigated.
The arrestees were found to be involved in anti-government activities, including planting landmines, waging direct attacks against security forces and launching targeted attacks against government officials and off-duty security forces in Nangarhar.
The IS militant group, which emerged in Nangarhar in early 2015, has not commented on the report so far.
