RABAT, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Morocco expressed on Thursday in New York its "full support" to G5 Sahel Force chaired this year by Burkina Faso, Morocco's official news agency reported.
"The security situation in the Sahel region challenges all of us. It affects all countries of the region," added the agency, quoting Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita as saying.
Bourita, who was speaking Thursday at a meeting of the UN Peace-Building Commission dedicated to Burkina Faso, urged the international community to increase support for the Emergency Program for the Sahel.
The G5 Sahel Force includes Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad.
He also noted that the rise of insurgency, extremism and terrorism undermine peace and security in the whole region.
The challenges are multi-dimensional and mainly address security and development, the two conditions required to ensure the stability of any country, Bourita added.
