BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- "Tibet Day," showcasing the natural scenery, history and culture of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, was observed at the ongoing International Horticultural Exhibition in Beijing.

The event, with Tibetan songs, dance and opera performances, kicked off on Thursday and will last for three days.

An exhibition on the region's intangible cultural heritage such as thangka paintings and Tibetan calligraphy is also being held.

More than 1,000 local specialities such as highland barley wine, buttered tea and air-dried yak meat are being displayed at the event.

The Tibet Garden, decorated with colorful Buddhist prayer flags, flower columns and yak sculptures, presents the residential architecture and living environment from the region's Thonpa Township, Nyemo County.

The Beijing horticultural expo, themed "Live Green, Live Better," is the world's largest expo of its kind. It opened to the public on April 29 in Yanqing District and will last until Oct. 7.
