MOSCOW, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and one was injured in a road accident in the Southern Urals Chelyabinsk region in Russia, local traffic police said in a statement on Thursday.
The accident occurred at around 11:45 p.m. local time (2045 GMT) on Wednesday when a 31-year-old man driving a Lada 21074 sedan on a local highway violated the traffic rules and moved into the lane intended for oncoming traffic. He then collided with an oncoming Lada 2111 hatchback, driven by a 21-year-old man, the statement said.
The driver of the first car and a 22-year-old female passenger were instantly killed in the crash, while the driver and two unidentified male passengers in the other car died of injuries later, the statement said.
Another passenger in the second car, a 22-year-old man, was hospitalized, it said.
Currently, police officers are establishing the circumstances of the accident and checking the technical condition of the vehicles, the statement added.
