China's Team A, B reach Snooker World Cup semis

WUXI, China, June 30 (Xinhua) -- China's Team A and Team B stormed into the semifinals of the Betfred World Championship in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, beating both Hong Kong, China and Belgium respectively on Saturday.

This year's event has 24 two-man teams from 23 countries and regions, with China sending two teams with Ding Junhui/Yan Bingtao in Team A and Liang Wenbo/Zhou Yuelong in Team B.

Luca Brecel of Belgium hit a good start during the quarterfinals as he beat Liang Wenbo 96-30, but Zhou Yuelong/Liang Wenbo turned the tables by beating the younger player Ben Mertens in second and fourth round.

Team China B showed their strength in the doubles. Liang won with 72 in the third round. China B won 81-15 and finished 4-2 ahead of their rivals to make the last four. The team will meet Kyren Wilson/Jack Lisowski of England, who survived Thailand 4-3 in the quarterfinals.

Ding Junhui/Yan Bingtao claimed an overwhelming victory in the game against Andy Lee/Ka Wai Cheung of Hong Kong, China by 4-0 on Saturday evening. Team A will compete against John Higgins/Stephen Maguire of Scotland who beat Welsh 4-3 on the same day.

The Snooker World Cup is the top level team competition of snooker. China has crowned for three consecutive years. The total prize money for this year's World Cup will be 800,000 U.S. dollars (about 5.4 million RMB). The champions will receive 200,000 U.S. dollars (about 1.4 million RMB).
