LUSAKA, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government said on Friday that it has started mobilizing resources to help people affected by Cyclone Idai in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Vice-President Inonge Wina, said as a good neighbor, Zambia has an obligation to help those affected because disasters could strike any country.

"It is only human to sympathize with fellow humans, friends and neighbors who are experiencing the sad effects of the cyclone," she said during a question and answer session in parliament.

On Thursday, President Edgar Lungu said the government will sit down to discuss how to help people affected by the cyclone in the three countries.

Lungu said Zambia has enough maize in its reserves which could be shared with people affected by the cyclone.

Parts of Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe have been devastated by the powerful cyclone that had led to a humanitarian crisis.
