BEIJING, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The ballet "Cendrillon (Cinderella)" by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will hit the stage of the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) from March 14 to 16.
The ballet is choreographed by director Jean-Christophe Maillot, who has tried to redefine the centuries-old fairy tale with modern elements, even replacing the famed glass slipper with bare-feet glistening with delicate, ephemeral gold dust.
The ballet takes the heroine Cendrillon on a journey to find true love, with a focus on the characters' psychology.
It depicts Cendrillon's original family, in which her birth mother is incarnated as a fairy who leads Cendrillon to pursue happiness.
