BANGKOK, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Election Commission (EC) has launched a bid to have a political party dissolved for having named Princess Ubolratana Mahidol as candidate for prime minister, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The agency resolved on Tuesday to petition the Constitutional Court to take into consideration the dissolution of Thai Raksa Chart Party which had nominated Princess Ubolratana as its sole candidate for prime minister in the March election.

The commissioners primarily charged that Thai Raksa Chart Party's nomination had violated Article 92 of the constitution's organic law on political parties.

The EC would send representatives to the Constitutional Court to submit the petition to dissolve the party on Wednesday, the statement added.

Thai Raksa Chart Party nominated Ubolratana as candidate for prime minister on Feb. 8, followed by a royal announcement later that day saying involving the princess in politics was "inappropriate" and against the constitution and constitutional monarchy.
