JAKARTA, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian junior cyclist Angga Dwi Wahyu Prahesta secured a gold medal in the ongoing Asian track championship 2019 in the country's capital of Jakarta.
"I do not believe this. The best result achieved by Angga proves the success of the training conducted by the association," coach of national team Haris Purnomo said on Friday, referring to the cycling association.
Angga secured the medal in the men's scratch junior, while Indian Venkappas Kangalagutti won the silver and Chinese Taipei racer Chih Sheng Chang on third.
The coach said that he would send Angga to compete in several other championship in the region.
On preparation, Angga said that he had undergone training in India for three weeks before the championship,
"I am very proud with this achievement, because the competition was very tough," said Angga.
On the same occasion, Indonesian cyclist pair Nimal Magfiroh and Sri Sugiyanti secured a silver medal in the women's 3,000m par-cycling at Jakarta International Rawamangun Velodrome on Friday.
A total of 297 athletes from 16 teams have been competing in the sport event which kicked off on January 8 and will end on January 13, the association said.
A total of 28 athletes from Indonesia are among those vying in the regional sport event, it said.
