MEXICO CITY, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Police and soldiers seized nearly 1.4 tons of cocaine from an airplane that landed without authorization at an airport in Mexico's southeastern state of Quintana Roo, the Mexican government said Monday.
In a release, the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection said the raid took place after civil aeronautic authorities reported a plane landed in Chetumal, the state's capital.
Members of the Federal Police and the Mexican Army found 1,396 kg of cocaine distributed among 43 black and white packages inside the plane, the ministry said.
Officials did not find a flight crew when they inspected the plane, which landed on the head of one of the airport's runways, according to the release.
Further investigation will be carried out.
