Macao's post-typhoon recovery efforts in full swing: SAR chief executive

MACAO, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Recovery efforts after typhoon Mangkhut struck Macao over the weekend were well underway, the chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) said on Monday, as the order and business activities were gradually restored.

Following the lowering of Typhoon Signal No.8, Chief Executive Chui Sai On paid a visit on Monday morning to districts affected by severe flooding during the powerful storm.

He said the civil protection management team should step up efforts to remove all debris and waste brought about by floodwater from the streets, in order to bring community life back to normal as soon as possible.

All bus service, marine transport and air flight operation were resumed after the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau canceled all the typhoon signals at 6 p.m. local time (1000 GMT).

Macao's education bureau said most of universities, middle schools, primary schools and kindergartens would open on Tuesday, except a few of them need repair or sterilization.

Macao's health bureau said hospitals and health centers in Macao have received 40 people injured during the storm, among whom one was severely wounded, nine sustained mid-level injuries and 29 had minor ones.
