BEIRUT, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- The vessel CMA CGM Maupassant from China arrived at the Lebanese port of Tripoli on Saturday unloading 1,300 containers, local media reported.
"CMA CGM Maupassant, a 300-meter-long vessel with 40 meters of width, carries 6,000 containers on board," the National News Agency reported.
CMA CGM, a leading worldwide shipping group, is expected to open a second maritime line between Lebanon and China in October with vessels that have the capacity to carry 10,000 containers.
"The opening of this new line reflects the confidence of the international community in the capacity of Tripoli's port among all other ports in the Mediterranean sea," according to the statement.
It added that Tripoli's port is a hub for the distribution and export of containers to other countries in the region.
This is the fourth vessel that arrived from China at Tripoli's port.
On Sept. 6, another vessel from China arrived at Lebanon's Tripoli port to unload products for the local market and transport containers to other ports in the region.
