BERLIN, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Midfielder Santiago Ascacibar has extended his running contract at Stuttgart ahead of schedule, the Bundesliga club confirmed in an official statement on Thursday.
The 21-year-old Argentinian, who joined the club in August 2017, has put pen to paper on a contract extension until June 2022. The new contract contains no release clause.
"Santiago was from the first match an important player in our squad. He has an extraordinary motivation and duel strength. Besides, he is an absolute team player who gives everything for the team's success," Stuttgart's sporting director Michael Reschke said.
Since his arrival, Santiago Ascacibar made overall 31 competitive appearances and provided one assist.
"We trust him to take a leadership role in our team in the future. Therefore it is extremely important to us to extend ahead of schedule," Reschke said.
Stuttgart will clash with Mainz for their Bundesliga season opener on Aug. 26. Enditem
