BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhua) -- China was glad to see Pakistan's general election underway and is willing to facilitate the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperation to make more progress with Pakistan's new government, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Thursday.
According to reports, Imran Kahn, leader of the Tehrik-i-Insaf party (PTI) is leading in the election. However, the outcome of the results was delayed due to a failure of the Result Transfer System.
When asked for comments, spokesperson Geng Shuang told a news briefing that China was glad to see Pakistan's general election underway, and hoped Pakistan would maintain political and social stability and concentrate on national development.
"The China-Pakistan friendship is deeply rooted and based on popular support. The development of the China-Pakistan relationship will not be affected regardless of the result of the general election," Geng said.
"The Chinese side will stand firmly with Pakistan's new government to promote more achievements of the bilateral all-weather strategic cooperative partnership," said Geng.
