BERLIN, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich have signed rising talent Alphonso Davies from Vancouver Whitecaps, the German giants confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday.
The highly coveted attacking midfielder will officially join the "Bavarians" on January 2019 after putting pen to paper on a contract until June 2023.
"Alphonso Davies is a great talent. With only 17 years he has a promising future ahead of him. He has great skills and was courted by many top clubs. Therefore we are very pleased that Davies has opted for us," Bayern's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said.
The youngster plays since 2015 for his youth club Vancouver Whitecaps where he scored three goals in 54 appearances for the senior team. His performance in the Major League Soccer (MLS) earned him a spot in Canada's national team in 2017. He provided ever since three goals in six caps.
"I am very happy about my transfer to Bayern. As a kid I always dreamed of such a moment. Now the dream has come true. The work continues and I have to give everything to take advantage of this opportunity," Davies told the club's official homepage.
