China, Myanmar pledge to strengthen exchanges, cooperation

NAY PYI TAW, July 10 (Xinhua) -- China and Myanmar pledged on Tuesday to carry forward traditional friendship and further strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation.

The pledge was made during a meeting between Myanmar's State Counselor and Chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD) Aung San Suu Kyi and a Chinese delegation led by Huang Kunming, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee.

During the meeting, Huang conveyed sincere regards from Chinese President and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping, and said the China-Myanmar relations have been keeping a good momentum of development, with frequent high-level exchanges of visits and continuous deepening of mutual political trust.

The senior official said China supports Myanmar's efforts in maintaining domestic peace, stability and achieving national development. He urged both countries to implement important consensuses reached by leaders from both sides, to carry forward traditional friendship, and to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in various fields.

He urged the two sides to enhance exchanges of governance experiences, deepen cultural and educational exchanges, consolidate the political foundation and public support for China-Myanmar friendship, and push the China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.

Aung San Suu Kyi, for her part, conveyed well wishes to General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, and said Myanmar and China are good neighbors and good friends, expressing gratitude to China for its sincere help and firm support to Myanmar's economic development and peace process.

Myanmar is willing to work together with China to maintain close high-level exchanges between the two countries, promote the China-Myanmar economic corridor construction and strengthen culture exchanges between the two countries so as to push forward development of bilateral relations, said Suu Kyi.

Suu Kyi said the NLD values its relations with the CPC. The NLD appreciates the achievements and rich experiences of the CPC in party and state governance, and hopes to deepen exchanges with the CPC in this regard, she added.

During his stay in Myanmar, Huang also held talks with U Myint Swe, Myanmar Vice President and U Than Htay, Chairman of the Union Solidarity and Development Party.

Huang also participated with Tun Tun Hein, deputy speaker of the lower house of Myanmar parliament and U Aye Thar Aung, deputy speaker of the upper house of the Myanmar parliament, in the launching ceremony of the Myanmar edition of the first volume of "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" and a forum on governance on Monday.
