More foreign plays, exhibitions to screen in China

BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- A total of 58 plays and exhibitions from Britain, France, Russia and the U.S. will be shown to the Chinese cinema audience in the second half of 2018.

China started to screen high-definition recordings of British plays in 2015. Since then, 58 venues in 24 cities have put on 76 plays, attracting about 240,000 viewers.

A recording of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" by Britain's National Theatre is to screen on June 26 at the Capital Theatre in Beijing.

Among the other plays are Olivier Award winner "Hangmen," the Royal Shakespeare Company's latest revival of "Macbeth," Christopher Wheeldon's musical "An American in Paris," the English National Ballet's "Giselle," the Bolshoi Ballet's "Romeo and Juliet," Tony Award winning Broadway play "Indecent," and French play "Cyrano de Bergerac."

Two documentaries about Japanese painter Katsushika Hokusai and English singer-songwriter David Bowie premiered in the first half this year will continue to be shown.
