ROME, May 24 (Xinhua) -- At least two people died and eighteen were injured in a train accident in the northwest Piedmont region of Italy, the country's emergency authorities said on Thursday.
The accident occurred when a regional train crashed into a heavy goods vehicle at around 11:15 p.m. (2115 GMT) Wednesday night while the truck remained stuck on the rail tracks.
Both drivers of the train and the lorry were killed in the crash while 18 people including the train conductor were injured, said Italy's state railway company Ferrovie dello Stato (FS).
The crash occurred on a railway line connecting the cities of Turin and Ivrea, according to FS.
Firefighters, emergency services, and the military police were called to the scene.
