ISLAMABAD, May 11 (Xinhua) -- At least five people were killed and two others injured in an explosion at a hotel in Pakistan's northwest city of Peshawar on Friday morning, police said.
Peshawar city police head Qazi Jamilur Rehman confirmed that five members of a family lost their lives after an explosion occurred in a room of a hotel at Bilal Town area of Peshawar.
Firefighters rushed to the site and extinguished the blaze that extended to the other floors of the hotel. Rescue teams evacuated other guests from the hotel, shifted the bodies and the injured to a hospital in the city. Several cars in the hotel parking lot were also damaged.
A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of police was called to ascertain the cause of the blast that occurred on the fourth floor of the hotel.
Initial findings of the BDS suggested that gas leakage caused the explosion.
