VakifBank Istanbul wins volleyball Champions League final in Bucharest

BUCHAREST, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's VakifBank Istanbul won the Women's Volleyball Champions League final on Sunday after defeating local side CSM Volleyball Alba Blaj.

VakifBank Istanbul defeated the Romanian team 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-17), in the Ioan Kunst-Ghermanescu Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest, host of the Final Four tournament.

VakifBank won the trophy for the fourth time after the 2011, 2013 and 2017 editions, with four other finals being played (1998, 1999, 2014, 2016).

CSM Volleyball Alba Blaj has managed a unique performance for Romanian women's volleyball, even though in the end it was dominated by VakifBank, who won in one hour and 10 minutes.

Chinese star Zhu Ting scored a team-high 15 points for VakifBank Istanbul and Lonneke Sloetjes had 14 points, while Goezde Kirdar had 12 points. For the hosts, Aleksandra Crncevic scored 8 points, Adina Salaoru, 7 and Nneka Obiamaka Onyejekw, 5.

In the third-place playoff earlier on Sunday, Italian team Imoco Volley Conegliano defeated Turkey's Galatasaray Istanbul with a score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20).

On Saturday, in the semifinals, VakifBank Istanbul defeated Imoco Volley Conegliano 3-2, and CSM Volleyball Alba Blaj crossed Galatasaray Istanbul 3-1.
