BERLIN, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Alice Weidel, parliamentary faction co-leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), informed press on Tuesday that she is exploring her legal options after being called a racial slur by controversial German rapper "Farid Bang".

Weidel's spokesperson Daniel Tapp said the she was currently exploring whether and how to take judicial steps in response to a short video released by Bang in which he insulted the AfD politician.

It was the first musical performance released by Bang since his nomination together with "Kollegah" for best hip hop album at the Echo music prize caused a national scandal due to the allegedly anti-Semitic nature of some song lyrics.

The music prize has since been abolished entirely after several musicians renounced their own awards and the event was dropped by major corporate sponsors in protest at the decision. Farid Bang and Kollegah also lost their record deal with Bertelsmann Music Group in early April following the public outcry.

The AfD politician did not want to comment personally on the latest turn in her escalating spat with Bang on Tuesday.

Weidel and other AfD politicians have faced repeated criticism for vocally condemning a perceived increase in anti-Semitic sentiment in Germany whilst simultaneously harboring several individuals with known right-wing extremist views in their own party.
