LONDON, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Zookeepers shelled out on an egg-stravagant surprise for Zoological Society of London (ZSL) London Zoo animals to enjoy Thursday as the country gets ready to celebrate the Easter weekend.

While children all over the country scramble to indulge in chocolate eggs this Sunday, the Zoo's lemurs and squirrel monkeys woke up to find their own Easter treats: colorful papier mache eggs hanging all over their enclosure, filled with tasty snacks.

ZSL's resident Komodo dragon Ganas feasted on his own eggstravaganza too: delicious fresh eggs hidden in the Attenborough Komodo Dragon House.

The agile primates leapt into the Easter action by using their expert climbing skills, while Ganas searched for his snack with his own unique superpower: being able to sniff out food from up to six miles away with his tongue.

ZSL's zoological manager Mark Habben said: "We always like to find fun ways for the animals to join in the festivities. While there will be no chocolate for our animals this Easter, we prepared an egg-citing veggie-filled egg hunt for our lemurs and squirrel monkeys and hid fresh eggs for our Komodo dragon, Ganas."

"This encouraged the animals to use their incredible super skills to search for the treats, which were hidden in amongst the foliage of their homes. Just like kids all over the country on their egg hunts this weekend," he said.
