NAIROBI, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's volleyball production line will be put to test when its best talent line up for this year's African Youth Games to be held in Algiers from July 19 to 28.

In 2014 under Coach Catherine Mabwi, Kenya claimed the silver medal in Botswana and will be eyeing to stage a big challenge to champions Egypt for the gold medal in Algeria.

Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has confirmed that 21 teams will be taking part in the tournament at the zone level, which also serve as a trial run for young African athletes prior to taking part in the Olympics.

"The finals of the African Youth Games will feature 8 teams including the organizer Algeria and one representative from each of the continental 7 zones," Tarek Al-Adwar, the CAVB spokesman said Monday.

In 2014, Kenya finished the Africa Youth Games in sixth position with 25 medals -- seven gold, 11 silvers and seven bronze -- which was a big improvement from the single gold they won at the inaugural edition in Morocco eight years ago. Egypt topped the count with 45 gold and a total of 92 medals.
